Spring is Nearly Here! Is Your Harley Ready to Ride?

brian59018

The snow has melted, the temps are rising, and it’s finally time to dust off your Harley and hit the open road. But before you roll out, take a minute—because the last thing you want is to fire up your bike after months in storage and realize you’ve got a dead battery, low tire pressure, or even worse—a hidden critter infestation.

BJ’s Cycles has your back. Whether you’re a hardcore year-round rider or just pulling your bike out for the first time this season, here’s what you should check before you twist the throttle and Ride it Like You STOLE IT!

This image shows a Harley Davidson ready to ride in spring.

Battery Check: Will It Crank or Just Click?

Your battery has been sitting all winter, and if it wasn’t on a trickle charger, you might be dealing with a weak or dead battery. Before hitting the road, check the charge, clean off any corrosion, and make sure those connections are tight. Need a new battery? BJ’s Cycles has replacements and can install them for you.

Tire Pressure & Tread: Grip It and Rip It

Cold weather can suck the life out of your tires—literally. Low pressure and cracked rubber spell trouble when you hit the throttle. Check your tire pressure against factory specs and inspect for dry rot or uneven wear. Not sure? Swing by BJ’s, and we’ll get you set up with fresh rubber if needed.

Engine Oil & Fluids: Keep It Running Strong

Letting your bike sit means oil settles, and condensation builds up. Don’t just assume you’re good—check your oil level and condition. If it looks dirty or cloudy, get it changed ASAP. Same goes for brake fluid and coolant (if your Harley has it). And while you’re at it, look for leaks around brake lines and hoses—leaks mean trouble.

Rust & Corrosion: The Silent Killers

Winter storage can sometimes leave its mark in the form of rust. Look over your chain, exhaust, and any exposed metal parts. A little rust now can turn into a bigger problem later. Need help? BJ’s Cycles can give your bike a full spring service to get it road-ready.

Critter Check: Who’s Been Living in Your Bike?

Mice, bugs, and other critters love to make a home in your air intake, exhaust pipes, and under your seat. Before you fire it up, make sure no unwanted passengers are tagging along.
